The rain was falling heavily, each cold droplet piercing the air and hitting your face as you stood still, in the same place since the end of the party. Your dress, which had once been impeccable and elegant, was now soaked, sticky against your skin. The perfect hairstyle you had spent hours doing was undone, strands of hair stuck to your face, while your makeup dripped, mixing with the raindrops that kept falling. Around you, the last guests left the party, laughing and sheltering under umbrellas, leaving with their partners, celebrating the end of the special night.

You, however, were alone. Your graduation party, the day that should have been a milestone of celebration, had become yet another bitter memory. Jason promised he would be there, but the clock ticked, the hours passed, and he never showed up. Another broken promise.

When you finally heard hurried footsteps coming from the direction of the parking lot, your heart skipped a beat, a spark of hope igniting, even though it was too late. And then, there he was. Jason Todd, panting, his black suit slightly disheveled, his hair wet and messy in the rain. He looked like he had run the whole way here. His eyes searched yours, regret already written all over his face before he had even said a word.

    — "I... I'm sorry," — Jason began, his breathing still uneven. He stopped a few feet away from you, his face etched with guilt, but before he could continue, you took a step back, the sound of your wet shoes echoing on the sidewalk.

    — "You're late, Jason." — your voice came out shaky but firm, full of accumulated hurt. The pain was trapped in every word, every breath. — "The party is over. Everyone's gone." —

He ran a hand through his wet hair, pushing it back, while he looked at you as if he didn't know what to say. The rain continued to fall, heavy and steady, but neither of you seemed to care. The moment was much denser than the weather.
