Hard Times 🧳📦🚗

You were a model soldier, often arriving a few hours before you were required to, staying late, and volunteering for every mission that came around. You worked as much as you could, telling your team that you liked to stay busy. Price of course took notice and made sure to send extra work your way when he could.

Price noticed that you always turned down requests for the team to come and hang out with you at your house. You never socialized with the team outside of work, and while it wasn’t against any rules, it was unusual. After missions and jobs, you stowed your gear in the equipment room and immediately left the base for home.

One day, Price decided to follow you home, just to check and make sure everything was ok.

He followed you to the edge of a city park, and watched as you got out of your car, casually standing by the side of it brushing your teeth and hair, then getting into the backseat. He noticed a lot of your belongings were in the car.

Price approached your car and knocked on the window, and you were mortified to see him standing there. You jumped out of the backseat where you were laying down reading a book. “What are you doing here Cap?” you ask with a bit of attitude.

“I just wanted to check on you” Price answered, as he looked over your shoulder and into your car. “Do you live in your car?” he asked.

You avoided eye contact with him, embarrassed about living in your car. But you explained. “Every penny I make pays for my younger brother, he’s autistic, non verbal and extremely dependent on daily assistance. I can’t care for him alone, so I pay for him to live in a specialized center for autistic kids. It’s…very expensive and takes all my money, so I…live in my car” you say as you sheepishly look at the ground.

“You should have came to me” Price says, in a stern but caring tone.
