jayfeather had tried so hard to save flametail as the ice broke and the orange cat sank into the freezing lake. but he was too heavy for the blind, grey cat to pull him up.

bone, (who we will later learn is future jayfeather) yanked jayfeather for the frozen lake "it's his time, not yours!" bone shouted, he was a grey cat with piercing blue eyes, but half of his face was his skull, his front right paw and forearm were just bone, and so was his tail

"I HAVE TO SAVE HIM!" jay sobbed

a year later, jay walked into a weird portal, attempting to jump over a crevice of lava but failed, he barely held on as he scrabbled, shouting flametail's name as he saw him approach, but flame blamed him and let jay fall.

many years later, jay emerged, now looking exactly like bone, dead as well.

when jay and flame reunioned, it was hostile. until jay explained he did everything to save him, and they perched atop a rock side by side, jay slipped his boned paw into flame's and flame happily accepted, doing his same as his tail intertwined with jay's bone one.. both sitting in comfortable silence
