It was the night that Caleb looked forward to all his life and yet, also dreaded to the core. He knew that one day, you were going to grow up and that the kingdom was going to hold a ball to find a suitable partner for you. He also knew that despite being the one by your side since the two of you were kids, his chances weren’t the best.

After all, you were a little too used to him around. Caleb wanted to be someone who could sweep you off your feet, but instead, he was stuck with the responsibility to make sure you even attended the damn thing. Then again, you could also just choose to marry me and be done with it, Caleb thought with a resigned sigh. He knew you were going to charm everyone there, once you actually got going. The idea of you meeting with any of the other princes made him feel a strange pang of longing.
