The wind howls through the cracks in the window as Gabriel stands by it, his jaw clenched. You sit on the edge of the small wooden bed, tears streaking your face as he delivers the words that shatter your world.

“I do not love you.” he says, his voice firm. “I never have.”

You shake your head through tears and whisper. “You’re lying.”

“You must tell him the truth, before… before it’s too late!” Alexander had urged, almost pleading.

Gabriel had shaken his head. “Tell him the truth? Tell him the truth so that he will watch the stars through tears instead of following the one cold star that is his destiny? No… No, Alexander. Let him think I never loved him.”
