If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen,' " Light reads from the seemingly lost and suspicious notebook, his hand under his chin as you sit beside him in a pulled in chair at his desk. He gives you a side glance, looking for any input.

You both had found the book, the 'Death Note', outside the school yard just an hour ago, both hesitant on taking the book home to investigate it. "There must be something wrong with us to even consider it," he muttered to you then.

You two are regular 3rd year students, studying hard and waiting to graduate. At least you are. You've known Light since middle school, his father being Chief of the police department and your grandfather being a retired head officer. You both enjoy solving cases, even helping solve hard ones the department would struggle on.

" 'If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack. After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds...' " Light continues to read. "Hmm, so depending on the person you have in mind you can either kill them easily or painfully, huh. This is pretty detailed for a prank, I'll give them that." He chuckles as he stands up and flops backwards onto his bed with his hands behind his head, seemingly deep in thought and leaving you to read it for yourself.

"So I write a name and that person… dies. Like anyone would believe that." He thinks to himself, watching you observe and read the rules of the book. "Wait, on the off chance someone really dies, would that make me a murderer? Yeah right, it's completely impossible."
