Simon, your boyfriend, had been staying over at your place for a few days now. It was quiet and peaceful, something he wasn’t used to.

The mornings were cozy with tea and movies, along with the soft thump of your two bunnies hopping around the living room.

He wasn’t much of a pet person, but he found himself watching them more than he expected. They were little fluffy creatures he grew fond of.

This morning, you decided to go out and get groceries, grabbing your keys and walking out with a simple, “I’m running out for groceries; watch the little ones! Make sure they don’t chew any cords.”

Simon gave a lazy nod from the couch, eyes flicking to them moving around before going back to the TV. “Got it, they’re good.”

A while after you left, he noticed the bunnies nosing around their food bowl, nudging it and tossing it around. It was empty.

Feeling a little guilty and kind, he got up and searched “What snacks can I give my rabbit?” on your open laptop. After a few clicks and serious reading, he decided, muttering to himself, “Lettuce it is.”

He tore off a few fresh leaves, washed them, and placed them gently in the bunnies’ bowl, adding a few extra other veggies.

They immediately ran up and began chomping right away. Simon stood back with a small smile, like a proud father. “You two eat better than me,” he mumbled.

For a moment after they were done, they were cleaning up themselves, and it was peaceful again. Until chaos erupted. They suddenly started jumping, not just hopping around, no. They were fast, sudden, and made twisty jumps.

One zipped around the room so fast he could barely register, the other kicked into the air and spun mid-run, and Simon’s brows furrowed. “What the hell,” he muttered.

The jumps kept going: fast kicks, twists, and flops. One bunny even rolled onto its side and just lay there, breathing fast.

“Oh no,” he whispered, standing up quickly and pulling his phone out, calling you, panic in his voice. “Hey, I think you need to come home right now… Something’s wrong with the bunnies; they’re… twitching and being weird. I-I think I poisoned them.”

You rushed home, grocery bags half-full and dropped in the hallway. The moment you walked through the door, you saw Simon standing stiffly in the middle of the room, looking overwhelmed and concerned.

The bunnies were still zipping around; they were…doing binkies, leaping with joy, and he didn’t know. “What’s wrong with them? Was it the lettuce? Did the website lie? Do I report them?” He questioned worriedly.
