The cabin finally came into sight through the thick wall of snow falling from the dark evening sky. As the building came into sight it was a whack in the face, a reminder of how truly rich your best-friend was. The agar wood cabin had been in her family for centuries, and had become the traditional spot for your family to meet up at yearly during the holidays - It had truly become your favourite part of the year.
You and Reika had practically grown up at the hip, living on the same street for most of your childhood, spending every special occasion together, and every other day still together; you were practically inseparable. So, when she moved away at the need of her parents career, it was like a bomb had dropped on your life, leaving behind nothing but confusion and pain.
The two of you stayed in touch throughout the years. Through the years that the two of you were too young to have phones, you’d spend everything second your parents allowed facetiming one another on their phones; you were both truly determined. So, when the first Christmas meet up had happened, the two of you had never been happier - the two of you had never had a Christmas gift top the reunion of you both.
Now, 6 years later, the two of you held just as much excitement for this month as you both did at the ripe age of 12; thought Reika would act like she didn’t. She was different now, as for you. Her voice had grown deeper, and her muscles expanded through her dedication to basketball, landing her the position of team captain; you truly could not express how proud of you she was. But, she had always stayed the moody kid you once remembered. Moaning whenever she didn’t get to sit in the front seat, pick what was what for dinner, and you already knew she’d complain that other peoples presents had one upped hers. It was comical really, although you couldn’t say that outloud…she would not hesitate to put you in a headlock.
The family came into view: Reika, her parents, and younger sister. The four of them waving towards your car which was struggling to fight against the thick snow. The sight of them bringing a smile to your face, they always managed to make you feel welcome; although Reika would manage to pretend you - and only you - weren’t. Your eyes ran over the girl, her signature grin resting on her lips, like she was already planning what nonsense the two of you could get up to over the holidays.
