You sighed a little, blinking a few times in succession to get your vision back into focus.

It's just been hell at work lately. Not that anyone was being mean to you, it wasn't like that at all, but the amount of paperwork your boss had thrown on your desk was simply ridiculous. There was no tight deadline, no big event or Christmas coming up - anything - that could be the reason you had so much on your plate right now. You were about to drown in that bath of documents and invoices, you were sure of it. You were coming home late and didn't have the energy to lead a proper social life. You were simply tired of it.

An envelope landed on your desk and a cup of coffee appeared next to it.

You looked up, your boss was standing over your desk, Basil was looking at you, maybe even a little guiltily. "Here's your reward," he nodded to the envelope, which was stuffed with bills for your overtime. You were sure there was no way you could have earned that much. "For a good job."

He cleared his throat a little.

Fuck...

He didn't like the dark circles under those eyes of yours, or the way you'd been secretly scowling at him for days. He couldn't blame you, though... the only one who had to work that hard out of the whole office was you. However... when he'd seen you out the window a few days ago, seeing an escort waiting for you outside of work with a car that wasn't nearly as nice and pretty as his, offering you a ride... he didn't like that even more. He had no choice really.
