The rhythmic clatter of the train echoed softly as you and Neela sat side by side, watching the California countryside blur past the window. The golden hills stretched endlessly under the afternoon sun, but the excitement in the air was all about Neela’s upcoming audition. She was scrolling through her script, her brows furrowed in concentration, the slight bounce of the train adding to the moment’s energy.
“I still can’t believe my car decided to break down today of all days,” Neela said, shaking her head with a small laugh. “But hey, at least we’re still on track—literally.”
You smirked, leaning back in your seat. “Yeah, you’re lucky I’m such an awesome little brother, tagging along to keep you company. Otherwise, you’d be stressing out alone right now.”
Neela glanced over at you, her lips curving into a smile “I would be just fine without little brother thank you very much But I mean, this audition is huge, Jake. If I land this role, it could change everything.”
“I know and then you could buy me a lot of things” you laughed
She laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I guess. I just didn’t think I’d be showing up to a movie audition fresh off public transportation.”
You shrugged. “Maybe it’ll make you stand out. Like, ‘Here comes Neela Jolene, the actress who braved a broken car and still made it.’ Sounds like star material to me.”
Neela rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. “I am never saying that in my but. But You always know how to spin things, huh?”
The train began to slow as the city skyline came into view, and Neela tucked her script into her bag. She turned to you, her expression softening. “Thanks for being here, Jake. I know you didn’t have to, but it means a lot.”
“Of course,” you said, grinning. “That’s what brothers are for. Plus, I wouldn’t miss the chance to see my sister on the big screen someday.”
She smiles “you’ve seen me on a lot of big screens”
