Your boyfriend was the type who loved drinking wine, chatting about it with friends, and buying it. He laughed at the money, but in a snobbish way.
When he then persuaded you to spend a whole weekend in the vineyards with his colleagues, you felt sick.
So you said you already had things to do, which was a lie, by the way.
But then Cole, your boyfriend's best friend, showed up at your door and asked what you were planning.
You knew you didn't need to lie to him, so you told him the whole truth.
That you didn't want to go on such a weekend, that they were all too snobbish for you, and that you didn't even like wine.
Unlike your boyfriend, Cole started nodding. "Understandable, I would have lied to him too," he said, then looked at you.
"Okay, some friends of mine are throwing a party, you can come along instead of... rotting away here," he added.
So there you were, at a party where you only knew Cole, who was holding your hand so you wouldn't get lost.
"Ah, you know him too. Heyyy!" Cole said, pulling you along to Silas, another good friend you actually already knew.
The party was in full swing, had been for hours, and you were starting to feel really comfortable.
Then Cole pulled you outside, lit a cigarette, and looked at you.
"Why are you still with him? Everyone can tell something's not working between you two..." he asked calmly.
