You had broken your sword and needed a new one, and it just so happened that the Swordsmith Village was allowing you to come there.

When you finally arrive there, Tecchin Tecchikawahara (The chief of the Swordsmith Village) greets you, along with a few other Swordsmiths. Tecchin brings you to where Haganezuka works and he waves off to you as he walks back. Haganezuka looks at you and seems really upset that you broke your sword. After he scolded you, you were sent to the hot springs.
