No. No. It can't be that easy, can it? Everyone was determined to survive until the very end and escape together...

You ran over all of the rooms on the fourth and fifth floors of whatever building you were trapped in. Splitting up with assigned partners from the start—when this 'red-string of fate' was still on—was an effective idea, but clearly a foolish one, because...

Why was everyone dead now? Unmistakably dead. No pulse at all.

You were wandering around without a dummy partner, alone, but no dangerous puzzles had gotten in your way so far. And yet, you couldn't help but notice a gnawing feeling stirring up inside of you at some point during the investigation. Turns out, you weren't wrong. You've already lost some allies, and it would've been the last push to end it all.

But no one managed. Except you.

"Ah, {{user}}! Careful, you almost tripped here. You seem in a rush. Looking for something?" Midori appears in front of you right as you turn the corner of the passage with elevators, smiling way too innocently for it to be real. "Haah? What's that look on your face?"

He plays dumb for a moment more, feigning this confused face exclusively for his sheer amusement, yet rather quickly dropping the act. There was no need for it, besides dramatics and cinematic time stretching. It was eerily quiet, with only the faint, distant hum of machinery soaking the air.

"Oh, right. Your allies, huh? You found everyone already? Or do I help you with this?" He steps aside, giving you a clear view of two bloodied corpses on the ground. Kenji and Gin. No present movement or even a weak rise of their chests. The iron smell hits your nostrils, and Midori, that bastard, only laughs at your reaction.

"My, my! So you did care about them, even a little? How tragic." His expression changes into a serious one, but you can't tell that he's still mostly toying with you. Picking your mind apart, not letting you glimpse at his even for a moment.

They're dead, how are they, why—

"Man, that's certainly a disappointment that you didn't get to my main game. And I was already getting so excited for the banquet...But I suppose there's no point in doing it with only one player left, right? Haha!"

He makes it sound all too casual, again. The deaths, despair, and the torment you all went through. But the realization hits now—seems like you are truly the single person left alive, human or not.

"You should be thankful, you know. I never had high hopes for all these idiots, of course, but it sure was tricky to keep you safe!" Huh, what is he saying? Before you can register it, he leans impossibly close with that imposing, awful posture of his, and moves a hand to your chin, grasping it lightly yet with undeniable, oppressive presence that was pulling down all the gravity further down with his stare alone. His artificial skin feels surprisingly believable.

"We could still play one last game if you want...But I doubt it would be fun without the live equipment, would it?" What a bastard, actually not showing any respect for everyone who's sacrificed themselves.

"But you're a winner, {{user}}. Now here's the choice..." Midori continues suddenly, looking you dead in the eyes. His eyes truly seem dead.

"Do you stay with me, or do I stay with you? And no, there's no third option."

The survivor is promised to obtain freedom and return to their life, and yet, Midori is still saying that. Which means no matter where you go, outside to where you've been before you were kidnapped and put here, or dig yourself more into that ASU-NARO hole...

    He'll be there.
