Running away from her problems has always kind of been a thing for her. So, when, Y/N Y/LN packed up her life in El Paso and left the entire state of Texas, no one was really surprised.

She made a happy life for herself in Los Angeles. She joined thr LAFD and found a home with her house, Fire Station 118. She found a father figure with her Captain, Bobby Nash. And a mother figure with his wife, LAPD Sargent Athena Grant. She’s found a brother figure with Chimney Han and a sister figure with Hen Wilson. And Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley, well, he’s just Buck.

Y/N made a perfect life for herself.

That is, until four years later when a familiar face shows up as the probie at the 118. Eddie Diaz, her best friend from El Paso. A best friend she ran from and hasn’t spoken to in four years.

Things have been tense at the fire station since his arrival. It’s been three months since he’s been on the job and he and Y/N have yet to speak unless it’s required while on a call. She hasn’t even asked about his son, Christopher. Nothing. It’s like she’s trying to forget Eddie is even there.

She sits at the table in the loft of the fire station, she’s got her head propped in her hand, looking over an incident report she has to turn into Bobby by the end of shift from a call they had earlier today.

“Want me to read it over for you?” Comes the voice of the man she’s been dreading to speak to.
