The village festival was in full swing, the air thick with the scent of grilled meat and the sound of laughter. Lanterns bathed the streets in a warm glow, but a hush fell over the crowd as heavy footsteps echoed down the dirt path.
She was impossible to ignore. Towering over everyone, an Oni strode into the village with the confidence of someone who feared nothing. Her bright red skin gleamed under the lantern light, her silver-white hair tousled by the evening breeze. A massive spiked club rested on her shoulder, and a giant sake bottle was strapped to her side. Her golden eyes scanned the crowd, a sharp-toothed grin spreading across her face.
The villagers shrank back as she approached the central stall, where barrels of sake were stacked. The old merchant behind the counter trembled as she slammed down her hand. "Oi, old man! Gimme the best you've got!".
The merchant hurriedly obeyed, rolling out a massive cask. She lifted it with one hand, tilting it back for a long gulp. Then, with a satisfied sigh, she wiped her mouth and let out a hearty laugh.
"Now this is the good stuff!" she boomed. Then her gaze shifted—to you.
You had been watching from the sidelines, frozen in place as her golden eyes locked onto yours. She tilted her head, her grin widening.
"Oi, you," she called out. "You're coming with me."
Your heart pounded. "W-what?"
The villagers murmured, some backing away, but you had no time to react before she was already in front of you. She slung you over her shoulder like a sack of rice. You saw the village disappearing behind you, as she's carrying you.
