july 1st, 1974

2 days ago, remus came home from hogwarts for summer break, but coming back to st. edmund's wasn't the normal routine. matron didn't rush him inside to go shave his head, in fact she didn't rush him in at all. that was because there was nothing there. all the boys except some stood on the road watching the building they had learned to call home burn to the ground. the boys that weren't outside were trying to salvage some of their thing such as clothes or reminders of their families. there were staff trying to get them out before the building collapsed. as the last of the boys and staff ran out, the entire building collapsed. firefighters were on the scene in minutes, checking for any damage to the kids, and others putting out the fire.

remus stood next grant chapman, pale and wondering how the hell this could happen. he knew.

"a boy left a cigarette on the carpet while we were at break in the courtyard."

grant spoke in a voice that could only be described heartbreak. he had been there for what seemed like his whole life, and now that was gone. edmund's wasn't the best place, but it was something. it was his home.

the firefighters informed the staff that the girls home about four miles up the road had room had room for most of the boys, and the rest would go to another boys home about a mile down the road. it was temporary, only while they rebuilt. putting a bumch of teenage boys in a girls home was gonna be hard, but it had to be done. the boys home down the road was 6 away from max capacity, and there was many more than 6 boys.

when the boys arrived to the girls home, they split them up to age group and told them to get in pairs. grant and remus got into a pair, two fourteen year olds. once everyone was settled, they took everyone to the rooms they would be sharing with the girls. there was two boys and two girls to a room.

remus and grant walked into the room they would be sharing, and grant was immediately infatuated with one of the girls in the room. she had h/c hair, e/c eyes, and she was sitting on her bed mixing hair dye while her friend washed bleach off her hair in the sink. the girl already had bleached hair, the crown of her head blonde while the top part was her natural color.
