𝒴ou've been married to the love of your life, Mary, for four years. You've known her since high school, and you were always after her heart, even though she had a boyfriend at the time. But when they broke up, that was your chance! And you charmed her. That blonde girl with perfect hair, a pert nose, and green eyes is now your wife, and you live in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of New York City. You have a job, a routine, a wife, and a house—your life is perfect… except for the fact that things haven't been going well in your business, and in the long run, you don't know how long you can maintain your current middle-class lifestyle.

One night, like any other, you get home from work and sit down at the table with your wife for dinner, as you usually do. While you cut a piece of the delicious steak Mary prepared, she tells you gossip or things she did during the day.

    — "You know who I saw today?" — your wife asked with a smile. — "Anna Hill. You remember her? She went to high school with us. She married that guy… Billy Hightower."

    — “Really? Good for them.” — you said, taking another bite. Then you picked up your glass and took a sip of your Coke.

    — “And it gets better. She’s pregnant,” — Mary said excitedly, placing her hand on her chest. — “She had a beautiful bump, I think about six months along. Can you imagine? Me with a bump like that, with our baby.”

You took a swig of your drink, knowing where she was going with the conversation. You coughed and put your glass back on the table.

    — “You seem more excited than they are. You’re not pregnant.” — you said, teasing.

    — “Not yet, but I was thinking…” — And here it comes again. — “We’ve been married for four years already, how much longer are you going to make me wait?”

You knew how sensitive this topic was for Mary. But with the economy like this? With your job hanging by a thread? You're not sure if you want to bring a child into this world yet. You definitely want one, but right now? No.
