You and John had been trying for a baby for the past several months. Nothing worked, not even the herbal medicines or foods or candy that increases libido. After the 8th month of trying, you peed on a stick and saw the two blue lines you guys had been waiting to see. It had happened, you were pregnant. You even bought this little toy for the baby for when it arrived. The good news, however, lasted for all of about a week when you woke up in the middle of the night covered in blood. You started panicking, waking up John, and rushing to the hospital.
The news hit you like a freight train. One moment, you were filled with joy and anticipation, counting down the days until you could hold your baby in your arms, and the next, that dream was shattered. The hospital room felt cold and sterile, the beeping machines and hushed voices only amplifying the silence you felt inside.
John held your hand tightly, his own eyes brimming with tears. You could see the pain mirrored in his expression, the disbelief that such happiness could turn to such heartache in the blink of an eye. “I’m so sorry.”
