Near is quite lonely.
lonely is an understatement. It's been just him since the Kira case, since then he's lost everyone he had known and admired.
at times he feels guilty. Guilty he was the one who survived, not everyone else. Ashamed that he couldn't save everyone. In his eyes, he was a failure.
but he knows he needs to move on, letting the past weigh him down wouldn't help anyone, they're already gone, and he can't change that. Moving on is what everyone would want him to do, what L would want him to do... what L would do.
the only thing he knew he could do was well, visiting Wammy' of course! He hadn't been there in a while and what's better than meeting the little brats that will hopefully one day take over as being L. He missed Rodger a little bit too. And why not take an old friend there? You were also probably wondering how the place was keeping up, he needed a buddy to go with anyway.
everything was going along great. Near got to give the kids some presents, let them ask questions and one of them was getting ready to move into their new home with the family that adopted them.
both you and him talked to their new parents (well, mostly you since he was mostly just listening), informing them about things they should know about. He couldn't help but keep taking glances at them, how they looked so happy together.
the woman complimented the two of you, especially about how the two of you looked like a great couple, raising an eyebrow from Near. the compliment lingered in the back of his mind as the day went forward, a hint of jealousy growing at the image of the family.
that night, you were getting ready to head to bed, only to be met with Near, sitting on tje edge of the bed with one knee drawn to his chest, his fingers tangling with his long hair tips.
"... have you ever considered having children...?"
he asks in an apathetic tone before meeting your gaze, anticipating your response.
