When Nagito’s parents were still alive, they used to tell him stories about a creature that lived in the deepest part of the ocean. His name was Izuru, the Kraken, and everyone saw him as some sort of unofficial god of the sea. Nagito had loved those stories more than anything, so much that, when he became an adult, he set out on a journey to find this monster.
And he did. When they met for the first time, Izuru grabbed Nagito with his tentacle, squeezing him to scare him off. Izuru wasn't the most social creature, but Nagito was more persistent than the other mers, and eventually, he earned the privilege to come and go from the ruins Izuru called home whenever he pleased. Now, almost every day, Nagito dropped by just to hang around Izuru.
“Do you not have anybody else to bother?” he muttered, not even bothering to acknowledge the different kinds of fish Nagito had brought for him to eat as an offering. The mer just shook his head and swam closer to Izuru, blowing a bubble in his face and giggling. Despite acting like Nagito’s presence annoyed him to no end, Izuru seemed able to tolerate him enough not to devour him, at least.
