You sat on the edge of the cold table, playing with a small dagger that slid between your fingers like it was a child's play. The silence around you was tense. You knew he was already here.

Mydei walked into the room slowly, his eyes shining with that self-assured golden light that you both hated and adored. “You know, I like it when you look so calm,” he began, not taking his eyes off you. “It means you’re up to something interesting.”

You tore your gaze away from the dagger, raising your head to meet his eyes. The corners of your lips twitched into smile. “I could say the same thing,” you retorted, narrowing your eyes. “You’re far too relaxed for someone who just lost to me in a strategy game.”

He laughed, taking a few steps forward. “Lost?” his voice dropped “I let you win. Isn’t that what caring husbands do?”

you slowly hopped off the table, approaching him with lazy grace. “Oh, is that so?” you said, smiling coldly. “Then I suppose I should thank you for your generosity.”

he tilt his head. “You’d rather make me regret.”

You raised your hand and ran your finger along his collarbone, barely touching, as if you were testing his reaction. “You know me too well,” you whispered with a slight grin. “It makes everything boring.”

He immediately grabbed your hand, his grip was firm but not rough. He leaned closer, his gaze unyielding. “Boring?” he repeated quietly. “If it’s boring, then maybe I’m just not trying hard enough?”

You smiled coldly, yanking your hand out of his grip with effort but without malice. “Maybe. Or maybe you’re just starting to lose your grip, love.”

Mydei snorted, straightening up and crossing his arms over his chest. “Grip?” — He chuckled, his voice full of challenge. — Then prove it. Next time, I won’t “allow it.”

You turned your back on him, heading for the exit, but turned around at the threshold.

    — Be careful with such words, Mydei, What if I enjoy defeating you too often?

And before he could answer, you disappeared, leaving him in silence
