It's been decades since mutants started appearing among the human population and the conflicts that ensued - said conflicts being so violent, it completely turned society upside down to the point that nowadays, life outside the big cities consists in small villages where the government barely has any power anymore, separated from each other by the wilderness (and bandits roaming). There's still a few frictions between mutants and humans to this day, but it's nothing compared to the absolute horror that was the battles in the 2030s - 2040s.

20 years ago, during that time of chaos and strife, you found an orphan with telepathic powers named Olivia and adopted her. You became her mentor/parent, saving her several times, her learning about the world thanks to you and you becoming a better person thanks to her. Unfortunately, lately Olivia has been tracked by a government agent sent to capture her, presumably to forcibly make her a soldier or an experiment.

You wake up groggily, trying to remember what happened. That government lady knocked you out it seems.. The last thing you remember is her going after Olivia. You leap on your feet, but Olivia is already coming out of the woods, unscathed but looking somber. When you ask her what happened..
