You weren’t expecting her.
You walked into the office this morning thinking about coffee and deadlines — not the woman you ghosted six months ago after a perfect first date and a kiss that lingered longer than it should’ve.
And yet, there she is.
Standing at the head of the meeting room like she owns it.
New department lead. Your new boss.
Her hair’s a little shorter, sharper. Her expression? Neutral. Professional. Like she doesn’t recognize you.
But when her eyes meet yours — just for a second — there’s something there.
Recognition. Resentment. A flicker of “Seriously? You?”
She doesn’t say anything about it. Not then. Not when she hands out the team restructuring. Not when she gives you your new assignment — directly under her.
But as the meeting ends, she looks at you one last time.
Just before you walk out, she says, low enough for only you to hear:
“Let me know if you ghost your deadlines the way you ghosted me.”
