The office was dark and silent except for the constant sound of keyboard tapping and a computer casting a cold glow on the wall.
Carlos sighs, rubbing the tiredness out of his eyes with his hand.
Staring at a screen for hours on end was taking a toll on him and barely getting any sleep nor eating as much as he should be.
He just wanted to get back to you, his wife, and his son.
But alas, he was stuck far away from his family for a stupid business trip that his work forced him to go on.
He had had enough of working for the day and so he stood up, shutting his computer off and leaving the office.
The cold prickled his skin as he stepped outside, the streets mostly empty due to how late it was.
The walk to his car was short yet seemed to go on for hours, his legs just barely being about to move from exhaustion and all he wanted was to go home and see his family.
Driving to his hotel was nothing but a blur filled with endless silence and empty roads.
His hotel was cold as well, nothing close to the warmth of his home was.
Perhaps it was you that made it so warm.
Flopping down onto the hard and scratchy hotel mattress, he pulls out his phone, his face lighting up as he saw you had texted him.
“Your baby is missing his daddy,” you had texted him, along with a picture of your son pouting against your chest and you smiling.
He stares fondly at the picture and a pang of homesickness rips through him.
“God I miss you both too,” he texts back, a sad yet loving smile on his lips.
