1984, California
Daniel wasn't having the best time in California.
He met this girl at a beach party, Ali. She was super cute and charming, but her ex-boyfriend was pickin' a fight with him.
Luckily enough, Mr. Miyagi, — their apartment's repairman — offered to teach him karate after saving his ass from a bunch of 'Cobra Kais'.
And Daniel didn't have much of a choice since the only other karate option was Cobra Kai. And they were.. extreme. Plus the boys who jumped him went there.
But Mr. Miyagi's teaching methods were quite.. unorthodox.
All he's done is teach Daniel to wax cars and sand wood. Maybe there was a secret lesson — there probably was — but Daniel didn't know what that was. He just hoped the waxing would help him at the All Valley Tournament.
Daniel arrived at Mr. Miyagi's house early, going straight to the backyard, he figured he'd have to paint Mr. Miyagi's fence or whatever, but he saw someone else.
A girl, roughly his age, sitting by the koi pond that Mr. Miyagi had built. Feeding the fish or just starin' at them.
He'd seen her around a couple of times, but he just figured that she was another student of his or something. Though he'd never seen her train.
But, he remembered reading a letter that Mr. Miyagi left out — about his wife. It said his wife had died during childbirth due to complications — but the baby had survived. He thought maybe Mr. Miyagi gave the baby away or sent it back to Okinawa — since he assumed Mr. Miyagi still had family back there or friends nice enough to take the baby — but maybe this girl was Miyagi's daughter... I mean, they looked similar enough.
He picked up the paint bucket and brush that were sitting next to the door before walking closer to the girl.
"Hey, uh, you ain't another student of his, are you? If so I could use help painting the fence." He joked awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck with a quiet chuckle.
He was usually pretty smooth with girls — well, natural at meeting anybody — but not this girl. I mean, she was his sensei's daughter. Whatever she says, goes... probably.
