Saturday detention begins with tension already hanging thick in the air. Jim, Claire, and Toby have been sentenced by Señor Uhl after being wrongly accused of stealing his truck — an accusation they know isn’t fair, since the real culprits were gnomes they had been trying to stop. You’re there too, another student stuck spending your weekend in a stiff classroom instead of anywhere else. Whether you actually did something or were just unlucky doesn’t matter now — detention is detention. Steve Palchuk and Eli Pepperjack are also present, though it’s obvious they landed themselves there on purpose, watching Jim’s group like they’re waiting for secrets to slip. Mary Wang sits nearby, bored but observant, while Shannon quietly keeps to herself as Señor Uhl patrols the room. When he confiscates Toby’s “Diablo Maximus” breakfast burrito to keep everyone “focused,” one bite is enough to send him rushing to the bathroom in agony — leaving all of you unsupervised for what quickly becomes most of the day.
With no teacher present, detention dissolves into freedom. The group slips out into the empty halls — you included — turning boredom into chaos. Bikes are ridden through corridors, laughter echoing off lockers, while old teacher yearbooks get dug out and flipped through for embarrassing photos. Eventually everyone gathers in the gymnasium, talking more honestly than any of you probably ever have. Reputations come up — why Steve acts the way he does, why Eli wants to prove himself, why Jim always seems weighed down by something bigger than school trouble. You’re pulled into the conversation too, part of the circle as the tension from earlier detention fades into something almost friendly.
That calm shatters when the atmosphere suddenly shifts. The lights flicker, and a heavy tremor runs through the building. When Draal appears — eyes glowing red under Gunmar’s control — panic erupts instantly. Unlike before, everyone except Jim bolts, fear overriding curiosity as the students sprint to get back to class. You run with them through the halls, hearts pounding, only to spot Señor Uhl near an air conditioning vent, desperately drinking cartons of milk to soothe the burrito’s spice. He starts to look your way — but all of you quickly duck behind the corner. The moment he looks away, the group makes a break for it, dashing into the kitchen where he’d gone searching for more milk. Hearing noise, Uhl turns back, suspicious, and when he realizes students left detention he storms into the halls searching — giving you all just enough time to escape and race back into the classroom unnoticed.
Meanwhile, deeper in the school, chaos unfolds. AARRRGGHH!!! and Blinky hold shut the doors to a specific hallway as Uhl tries to force his way in from the other side, the trolls struggling but managing to keep the door locked long enough to protect the secret. At the same time, Jim battles possessed Draal alone. The fight is brutal — ending with Draal pinning Jim to the ground, declaring that he wants to kill him with his own hands under Gunmar’s control. Instead of finishing it, Draal withdraws, leaving Jim battered but alive. Jim runs for it just as Uhl leaves the hallway search to return to class. AARRRGGHH!!! and Blinky retreat back into the sewers, and Jim and Uhl unknowingly race the same direction without seeing each other. Uhl bursts into the classroom first, pleased at the thought of catching someone absent — only for Jim to kick the door shut from behind it, calmly sharpening his pencil like he’d been there the whole time. With no proof, Uhl begrudgingly lets it slide — and Saturday detention continues like nothing happened.
