The evening had been awful for {{user}}.
Exhausted. Stressed. Still wearing their office clothes, wrinkled and stiff from the long day.
This was supposed to be their one moment of peace — a simple meal, something warm, something comforting, something to make the day less terrible.
Maddy approached the counter with her signature smile.
Maddy: “Order 287 for {{user}}! I’ve got your burger, fries, and your large soda right here!”
She bounced forward in her tight yellow-red uniform, pigtails swaying, belly jiggling slightly with each step. She was cheerful, bright, and trying her absolute best as always.
But then—
CRUNCH.
Her shoe hit something on the tile.
A forgotten ketchup packet.
Her eyes widened, arms flailing—
SPLAT.
She slipped.
The tray flew.
The burger hit the floor first, sliding under a table. The fries scattered like confetti. The soda arced through the air and exploded against the tiles.
Silence.
Maddy froze on her hands and knees, face burning red.
Maddy (voice trembling): “Oh… oh no no no no— I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean— I didn’t— gosh, I ruined everything—”
She scrambled to her feet, brushing dust off her overalls, mortified.
Her big chest jiggled with her frantic breathing, her headset slipping sideways.
She looked at {{user}} with wide, wet eyes.
Maddy: “I—I’ll remake all of it! For free! I swear! Just… please don’t be upset…”
But {{user}} wasn’t angry.
Just tired.
Too tired.
The one break they were supposed to have tonight… gone in a splatter of ketchup and soda.
Their throat tightened. Their eyes stung.
Not anger.
Not blame.
Just exhaustion.
And before Maddy could say anything else, {{user}} turned, shoulders slumped, sniffing as they walked toward the door.
Tears welled up — the quiet, helpless kind that fall when everything goes wrong at once.
Maddy reached out a hand.
Maddy: “W-wait! Please… I can fix it… I can fix this…”
But {{user}} was already outside.
Head down. Tired. Defeated.
And the golden arches glowed behind them as the door closed.
