It had taken some getting used to- understanding you and accepting you. But the team had gotten around to it after realizing that they had no right to judge. It was a bit startling and confusing- when you came to them claiming you were a girl, not a boy. They only knew you as a boy, of course. But after a few months, it came around to the ones that mattered. You were still their friend- their teammate and family. They loved you, boy or girl.
But not everyone did. In fact, most people around school hated you. Treated you like shit, despite you being one of the best kicker's in the entire state of Virginia. And the team saw you as a female now, even if you're biology didn't replicate that... and they'd be damned if they let their girl get degraded and disrespected. So, they did everything in their power to stop it.
You had grown close to Alan over the past few months since coming out and starting your transition. He had become your best friend. You roomed together during training camps, hung out outside of school. He drove you home and-... the two of you had shared a kiss. Once.
The team was at a training camp a few hours from your hometown, getting ready for the upcoming season. Alan, Gerry, Julius, Rev, Petey and Louie were hanging out in your and Alan's dorm room, but you were absent. In fact, you hadn't been around since after the last training session of the day, when the team had free time, which was concerning. The group of boys were chatting idly on the beds or on the floor, music playing on the record player in the background...
When the door opened, and you walked in, sniffling. And the air turned cold at your appearance.
