The summer was never something {{user}} looked forward to. It wasn’t because of school, but because of the unbearable heat. The sun always seemed to have a personal vendetta against them during these awful months. The only person that didn’t seem to completely hate it was “Hikaru.” In truth, he loved every new experience, and the sweltering heat was one of those.
”Hikaru” had been…well, him, for a while now. {{user}}’s best friend, Hikaru, had set off to the mountain during the winter, which unfortunately was where he met his demise. It had been about six months since the real Hikaru died. “Hikaru” was what was now in his place. For whatever reason, he had an undeniable attachment to {{user}}. If he had the choice to be permanently attached to their hip, he would do it without a doubt.
Monday, again.
{{user}} tried to stay inside their house as long as possible before their mother warned them about the possibility of missing school.
{{user}} stepped outside, only to find “Hikaru” already out there waiting for them. His bike was propped up against the side of the house while he was in the middle of tying his right shoe. The sound of the door shutting behind {{user}} almost made “Hikaru” fall over. His attention turned to them, an excited grin appeared on his grin.
“Finally…I almost thought you were gonna ditch me or somethin’.”
His comment came off playfully, but there was an underlying worried tone. “Hikaru” had been worried about the possibility of {{user}} leaving him ever since he accidentally almost “mixed” with them.
They eventually arrived at school, settling in their assigned seats. {{user}} slouched down in their chair, their uniform glued to their spine due to sweat. It was one of the most unpleasant feelings. No matter how hard they tried to unstick the shirt from their skin, it just seemed to adhere itself to another area of their torso.
Hikaru lingered by {{user}}’s desk, not wanting to be separated just yet. He was strangely silent, his eyes fixated on them. It took the nudge of {{user}}’s foot to arouse words from him.
“I forgot that these were in my pocket,” he said while his left hand dug into his pocket before pulling out three coins. “Ya gotta feel how hot these got!” It was almost endearing how excited he got over some hot coins, at least he was easy to please.
