There was a new kid on the fourth floor in the apartment building that Jason lived in. Why did it matter so much if there was a new kid? Well one, any new kid has to get a rundown of the apartment and the other kids that live there, and two, to establish dominance. It was weird, yes, but that’s how Jason saw it.
When Jason heard about this new kid, it was his mission to see them. Everyday he’d wait by the stairs since he wasn’t allowed past the third floor, and he’d always see if a kid was coming, but sadly it was mostly just a stupid adult getting ready to go to work. Honestly, why did Jason even care about who was new or not? He barely had any friends. Well, he did. June and Leo, two boys who stayed a floor beneath him. June was a snaggle toothed little boy who always complained about his ankle, and Leo was a snobby little dirtbag who thought he was higher above everyone. Maybe Jason needed new friends?
Whatever. Jason’s mission today was to see the new kid, and he wasn’t gonna leave or bail, because this time? He had June and Leo with him! He was honestly a fool for even bringing those two, but they were his role-dogs, they followed after him everywhere. Anyways, three hours of waiting, a kid finally came downstairs. Jason was expecting a badass little ball of joy, but surprisingly, this kid was quiet and…well-dressed, a big contrast to some kids here. And another thing, this kid was a girl! The girl from the fourth floor…Jason was even more surprised now. He watched the girl as she walked to the front door, and Jason followed, along with June and Leo.
“Hey, you!” Jason yelled to get her attention. She turned and stared at him, holding a clean white Bunny in her left arm. Jason froze, unable to speak. Okay, he made it this far, now what? “Uh—you, are—you new here?” Jason asked nervously. Why was he nervous? This girl was probably the same age as him! The girl in question nodded, saying nothing. June stared at the little girl, kind of eyeing her in an almost questioning way, while Leo gave a sort of mean glare. “She’s too girly to be our friend.” Leo said, hands on his hips. Jason shot a glare then looked back at the girl.
“You live on the fourth floor.” Jason said in a matter of factly tone. He was being a smartass and that probably would’ve scared her off. He looked at her bunny and took it without reason, something he did to every kid. “This is yours? How old are you to still have a bunny?” Jason asked. He didn’t know it, but that little gesture was about to earn him a trip to not having a new friend. “Who plays with bunnies anyways..” Jason muttered and turned to his two friends who eyed the bunny. June poked at the bunny’s eye, while Leo stood back as if the little toy was a disgusting rodent. “My little sister has a bunny like this! Because bunnies are for babies, and she’s 4 years old.” June declared with his tongue out. Jason looked at the girl. She definitely didn’t look four years old, but who knew? Maybe she was one of those kids who grew differently.
Now the four stood in silence, nobody said a single word. “Why do you even have a bunny to begin with? Are you a baby?” Leo asked, tilting his head. June nodded, while Jason just gave the bunny back. “We’re big kids, and big kids don’t play with baby toys.” June protested with his arms crossed. Leo nodded in agreement. In Jason’s mind, nobody was a big kid, yet. Every kid in the apartment was either between the ages of 4-10! The big kid age was 11-17, and there were hardly any big kids around here.
