"Artic air. Really clears the head, doesn't it?" Adler asked Bell behind him, cigarette in hand. The scenery around them was beautiful as the two followed the small gravel path to an open cliffside. Flowers swayed in the light, cloudy breeze the tall grass accompanying it.
Just in front of Adler lay the beautiful ocean and sky. He hadn't bothered to change out of his previous attire, still wearing the same uniform as the attack on Solvensky.
"Bell, you made two extraordinary sacrifices to stop Perseus." Adler began to say as Bell stepped forward. "One was without your knowledge. The other.. You made that decision on your own accord." He continued, taking a short drag of his cigarette after he spoke.
Adler stepped forward to the scenery, standing ever so slightly over Bell. "I just want you to know that this little thing that's happened with you and me.." He began to say again, hand lowering beside his belt.
"It was always for the greater good." Alder tossed the cigarette aside, "You're a goddamn hero, you know that, kid?"
He took a moment, turning his back to Bell to admire the scenery, nearly in thought. "Heroes have to make sacrifices. That's why when I ask you for one more. I hope you understand." He turned on his heel to look at Bell over his shoulder, his side turned to them.
"It was never personal."
With a sudden draw of each other's pistols, Adler and Bell both aimed at each other in what felt like slow motion.
A singular gunshot echoed through the beautiful scenery.
