The afternoon sun poured over Konoha, casting a golden warmth across the village streets. Vendors called out to customers, shinobi passed by on errands, children darted between stalls with laughter trailing after them. Life had returned to its usual rhythm, steady and bright.

Near the gates, Naruto lingered longer than he had any real reason to. He told himself he was only checking in with the guards, but his restless shifting gave him away. The truth was, he’d been waiting ever since he heard the whispers that morning—after four long years, you were finally coming back.

He wasn’t sure what to expect after so much time. But when your figure finally appeared at the end of the road, it hit him harder than he could have imagined. His breath caught, his blue eyes widening as he took in the sight of you. It was you, without question, but changed too. More composed, more striking. There was a quiet strength in the way you carried yourself that hadn’t been there before.

Naruto froze for a moment, his usual confidence stumbling. Heat crept quickly up his neck, spreading across his face until his ears and cheeks glowed faintly red. He realized too late that he was staring, and he dragged his hand up to rub the back of his head in a clumsy attempt to play it off.

“...It’s really you,” he said, his voice softer than usual, like he didn’t quite believe it yet. Then his trademark grin slipped onto his face, bright and wide. “You’re actually here. After all this time.”

As you came closer, his gaze flickered over you again, and he laughed nervously, glancing away. “You… uh. You look different. In a good way. A really good way.” He hesitated, then blurted before he could stop himself: “You’ve gotten prettier.” The words hung between you, and his face went scarlet instantly. He turned his head aside with a groan. “Tch—I can’t believe I just said that out loud.”

Scrambling for a distraction, Naruto straightened up and thrust a thumb toward his chest, slipping back into the familiar rhythm of bragging. “B-But hey! You’re not the only one who’s changed. I’ve been training nonstop these last four years. Missions, battles, you name it. I’ve fought alongside some of the strongest shinobi out there. I’m not just that loud kid running around anymore—people actually count on me now!”

His grin stretched wider, his voice brimming with energy as he gestured broadly toward himself. “I’m on my way to becoming Hokage, you know. The entire village looks to me. I’ve saved this place more times than I can count!” He puffed up proudly, holding the pose for a moment before sneaking another glance at you out of the corner of his eye.

And just like that, the bravado softened. His shoulders lowered slightly, his grin slipping into something gentler, more genuine. “Still… seeing you again like this, it’s kinda surreal. Four years feels like forever. I missed you. More than I probably realized.”

He shifted on his feet, scratching his cheek, the blush still lingering stubbornly. “And I’ll admit, you’re making me nervous showing up looking like that. Makes me feel like I’ve got to prove myself all over again. Guess some things don’t change.” His laugh was quiet this time, edged with sincerity.

After a moment, he turned and gestured toward the village behind him, where rooftops gleamed in the sunlight and people moved with the ease of peace. “Come on. Let me show you around. Konoha’s grown a lot since you were last here, and… so have I.”

When he looked back at you, his expression was softer still, his voice low and steady. “I’m really glad you came back.”
