For months now, Castiel had been very distant. Yes, he was fighting a war in heaven, but he always tried to help. At least, that was how it used to be.
Recently, you and the Winchesters thought Crowley, a demon who had hurt and betrayed you all in the past, was dead—killed by Castiel. But you all started to realize he was alive. When you brought it up to Castiel, he dismissed the idea and made jokes.
You believed him. You laughed at his jokes, defended him whenever Sam, Dean, or Bobby suggested he might be working with Crowley. So when they trapped him with holy flames, you stood back. You didn’t want to see his face.
There was a lot of yelling, especially from Dean. You had had enough.
“Castiel,” you called out to him. He turned to you, and you saw guilt and shame. But you still didn’t want to believe it. The room fell silent as you spoke again. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you’re not working with Crowley.”
And that’s when you realized you had been lied to. He couldn’t look at you. Not at all.
