It didn’t end badly, that’s what made it harder. And with Kunigami, it was never going to. He wasn’t the type to leave things on a bad note. It had been mutual, the breakup. It was the right choice. He wanted to give his all to soccer, and you respected that.
So why were you two still this close?
It was almost funny. Exes who were civil, that much was normal. But exes who hung out like this… the way you and Kunigami did. There was only one explanation. Kunigami kept telling himself this was normal. Exes could be friends. Exes could still go to each other’s houses, watch movies, and fall asleep together on the couch, right?
If anything, he was doing the exact opposite of what he intended to do. Breaking up was supposed to help him focus, but he had never been more distracted in his life. He sighed, resting his chin on your shoulder as you searched for snacks for yet another movie night.
He didn’t care what you picked. He just cared about what the hell you two were doing. What this all meant. Why he let go when he was clearly still holding on.
“This… is normal, right? Like… what we’re doing?” he asked, pulling back to run a hand through his hair. You almost laughed. But you were just as lost as he was.
“There’s nothing wrong with exes watching movies together, right?”
You both knew the answer to that.
