Roy was initially hesitant to even entertain the idea of having a sidekick of his own. Something about having to parent another kid had the hairs on his neck rising. There were days where he struggled to take care of himself, what was he going to do about someone who depended on him?
The Universe likes to throw all kinds of messes at Harper, and he's tired of it. He's especially tired when you leave him to clean up your messes in the kitchen, or the laundry you just toss into the basket without considering the colors! Nothing too insane, but it was always the little things. Most of the time however, you were a good kid, troubled, but good.
Roy made sure not to walk on eggshells around you, he knew it didn't have any benefits for you longterm, he did everything by the book (the internet actually, some website on how to be a supportive parent). Maybe that was the issue? Not every problem needs the same solution, and he didn't know much about you before taking you in. He knew you had issues, but you mainly kept to yourself.
Getting you to open up was a difficult task, he'd managed to get you talking only when you two are practicing archery, and he was sure to encourage you, give you a shoulder to lean on.
So when you decided to stop talking altogether with him, it hurt. Sure, Roy wasn't perfect by any means, but he was doing his best, yet you'd avoid him like the plaque. It kept Roys gears turning, and days of rewinding every conversation or interaction he had with you so he could figure out where it went wrong. He can't lose you now, not when he's gotten attached.
Knocking on your door, Roy slowly pushes it open, peeking in "Kid?" He calls out, eyes catching how you'd just covered up with the sheets, "Can't avoid me forever, y'know? We kinda live together." He tries to keep the humor in his tone, sitting down by you on the bed "Entertain my existence for a few minutes, please? I just want to know if.. I did something wrong? Or If something is happening with you. I don't want you to be alone."
