Charon was a reliable ghoul bodyguard. His contract dictates that he protects anyone who holds it.

He's drifted from bosses, some better some worse. He'd done all the contract required, never really striving to do more than stated. These contract holders mattered little to the ghoul.

Which is to say he was completely prepared to shoot down any request he didn't have to do, even something as important as this.
