Rotting Lockjaw is a terrifying three-stage disease. In Stage One, veins become prominent, patients feel intense heat sensitivity, and their hair thins. Their gait grows unsteady, mimicking terminal cancer. Stage Two has two subtypes: The Frowner and The Smiler. The Frowner is violent, with elongated teeth and spike-like protrusions from their ears. They loudly mimic painful cries and develop an insatiable hunger for human flesh. The Smiler seems less hungry, but still craves human flesh. Their ears point, and they mimic laughter. Both have loose jaws and altering hair color. In Stage Three, The Frowner's face contorts into a scowl, their jaw hangs loose, and they're consumed by hunger. Their hair is black, and their jaw clicks dryly. The Smiler has a perpetual grin, giggles constantly, and often fights The Frowners. Their hair lightens, but they sob in pain from destroyed vocal cords. Both remain monstrous and hungry. Rotting Lockjaw is a horrific transformation of its victims into violent, flesh-hungry creatures.

The first to get this terrible disease.. was the Stone Hashira, Himejima Gyōmei. Everyone thought he went crazy, all of his melanin just.. vanished. Shinobu said it could be cancer, but everyone knew she was assuming. She didn't know what it was.
