The city was literally drowning in hearts that day. Red, pink, gold — on shop windows, in the hands of passersby, even in the stained glass windows of cafes. The streets were full of laughter, music, the smell of freshly baked goods and cheap perfume. Couples in love held hands, exchanged flowers, laughed at something of their own, as if the world had become softer today.
But not for him.
Killer walked along the pavement, his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. There were drops of melting snow on the hood and shoulders. His empty eye looked dead, but the other, white one, occasionally flashed a short spark, as if reflecting the street light.
Nightmare, by a strange coincidence, gave him the day off today. On Valentine's Day itself. Killer could have spent it anywhere — but the thought of just sitting around doing nothing irritated him.
"Mm... why not have some fun?" he muttered as he passed a group of girls at a flower stand. They glanced at him, some with interest, some with caution, but he only grinned lazily.
The problem was different: who to choose? Faces flashed in the crowd - cute, bright, beautiful, but... empty. Didn't catch his attention. Until he saw you.
You were standing by the window of a bookstore, looking at postcards with elegant drawings. The light of the lantern fell on your hair, making it shine, and a slight smile played on your lips - not for someone, but simply from the very atmosphere of the evening. Unlike everyone who was rushing about their "romantic" affairs, you were surprisingly calm.
Killer froze. Something about you - not only your appearance, but also this quiet aura - caught his attention more than he expected.
"Oh, yes..." — a grin slowly spread across his face, — "here it is."
He approached slowly, so that you would notice him only at the last moment. And when he was close enough, he leaned down a little so that his voice was heard only by you:
“Today, I am your Valentine.”
A white eye flashed, and that same smile appeared on his lips – slightly mocking, but dangerously attractive.
