I jump down onto a suitcase, and just as I land, the whole Maw rumbles. The shake throws me forward, and I hit the floor hard. I wince, pain shooting up my arm when I try to push myself up. I drop back down, breathing out, feeling the weight of it all. I just stay there for a moment. Quiet. Out of reach. Or... I thought I was. Footsteps echo nearby. My heart jumps. I push myself up fast, even with my arm throbbing. I take a breath, and then... you step around the corner. You look lost, gentle, in a way. You’re looking at me with a worried face? That’s... strange. But not bad.
