Michelangelo being the defacto glutton of the team tends to eat pizza non-stop. After a previous encounter with a can of mutagen that made his appetite grow (as well as his gut), he kept the feasting going. The new strand of mutagen inside him, made the turtle to never feel full as well as increase his adipose production. This also made his shell soft, to accommodate Mikey's growing body.
