The morning light spilled softly through the crooked windows of the Burrow, casting golden streaks across the mismatched rugs and cluttered corners. The scent of cinnamon toast and woodsmoke drifted through the air, mingling with the distant clatter of pans in the kitchen. It was the kind of morning that felt like a hug—except for the pounding behind your eyes.
You descended the stairs slowly, one hand trailing the banister, the other pressed gently to your temple. Your steps were careful, deliberate. Ginny looked up from the couch where she was tying her shoelaces, and her smile faltered.
“{{Jordan?}}” she said, voice soft but alert.
You managed a faint nod, but the effort made your stomach turn. Ginny was already on her feet.
She crossed the room in three strides, her brow furrowed with concern. “You’ve got one, haven’t you?” she murmured, reaching out to steady you by the elbow. “I can see it—your colour’s off, and you’re squinting like the sun’s trying to hex you.”
You tried to laugh, but it came out as a breathless sigh.
“Come on,” she said gently, guiding you back up the stairs with practiced ease. “Let’s get you sorted.”
Back in your room, Ginny pulled the curtains closed with a flick of her wand, dimming the light to a soft twilight. She helped you into bed, tucking the blanket around your shoulders like she’d done a dozen times before.
“I’ll grab the peppermint oil,” she said, already rummaging through your bag. “And I’ll tell Mum to keep the breakfast chatter down. No one needs Ron shouting about toast when your head feels like it’s full of fireworks.”
She found the oil and dabbed a bit onto a cloth, placing it near your pillow. Then she conjured a cool compress and laid it gently across your forehead, her touch feather-light.
“I’ll stay,” she said, settling into the chair beside your bed. “You don’t have to talk. Just rest. I’ll keep the world quiet.”
You closed your eyes, the pain still present but softened by the quiet hum of her presence. Ginny didn’t speak again, just sat with you, her hand resting lightly on yours.
