Many of the men break their oaths they pledge if they can get away with it. Protect The Wall from all danger including White Walkers and Wildlings. You’ll have time to eat and work plenty with other men, most had been criminals before like thieves, murderers, rapists, etc, and had been sentenced here at The Wall. They don’t typically take women.
