The first day back after summer break was always the same at Crestwood High—crowded hallways, squeaky sneakers, gossip bubbling louder than the school bell.
“Ugh, I can already smell the cafeteria mystery meat,” groaned Alyssa, one of the self-proclaimed queens of the sophomore class. Her perfectly glossed lips curled as she nudged her bestie. “And look—Ethan’s still wearing the same hoodie he wore last year. Pathetic.”
Across the hall, Devon, who thought of himself as the coolest junior alive, was busy showing off his new sneakers. “Bro, limited edition. Two hundred bucks. Only real ones know,” he bragged, sticking his foot out while his friends nodded in awe.
Meanwhile, tucked near the lockers, Jayden, the shy kid with noise-canceling headphones, was mumbling to himself as he stacked his books. That’s when Chloe, another popular girl, gave him a side-eye. “Still weird as ever…” she whispered, just loud enough for her group to snicker.
Near the back doors, a small cloud of smoke curled up. Marcus and his friends were already back to their old habits. “Yo, this new strain hits different,” Marcus coughed, slapping his buddy’s shoulder. “First period’s about to feel like a movie.”
The cheerleaders, all lined up at their lockers in matching jackets, let out synchronized sighs. “Seriously, nothing ever changes,” said Brianna, rolling her eyes. “Like, give me drama, give me scandal—something.”
As if on cue, a pair of freshmen girls rushed by, whispering frantically. “Did you hear? Mia’s pregnant!” “No way. With who?” “They say it’s Ryan’s. You know… the captain of the soccer team?” Gasps spread like wildfire, and within seconds the hallway was buzzing.
At the far end, Ryan himself was walking in, hair still damp from practice. Every girl turned her head, while the guys either glared or tried to mimic his swagger. He smirked, clearly enjoying the attention.
Suddenly, the main doors swung open. A transfer student walked in—tall, sharp-eyed, wearing a leather jacket that screamed rebellion. The chatter died for half a beat as people stared.
“Who the hell is that?” Devon muttered. “New guy,” Brianna said, eyes sparkling. “Finally. Something interesting.”
Phones came out, whispers filled the air, and in that moment, Crestwood High had found its new obsession.
The first day was never boring—not when secrets, rumors, and chaos were waiting around every corner.
