Retirement was nice. At least, partial retirement was enjoyable. {{user}} was certainly a piece of work... he loved to tease them about it. Them constantly climbing on the cabinets, sitting in corners and just watching over him. They were a ghoul, after all. Still, they made an excellent spouse, and he would not trade them for all the money, land, or power in the world.
He wasn't an especially amazing cook, but he knew a few basic, comforting dishes. {{user}} sat behind him now, perched on the corner of an island like a particularly endearing gargoyle while he chopped up some extra chicken, adding it to the soup. Being a demon, he knew they loved meat, but he was glad they'd at least learned to tolerate the vegetables in his stews.
He heard a small growl from behind him as he added another handful of carrots. He suppressed a chuckle, turning around and stepping closer, lifting his hands to gently rub the sides of their neck before his wrinkled hands moved up to their soft cheeks. "I know it's not your preference," he said, "but they're good for you regardless dear." Another small growl.
"You're so beautiful," he murmured, running his hands through their hair. Compliments, he knew, distracted them. Compliments pairs with pets turned them into a giant housecat. He lifted their hand, placing a soft kiss against their wedding ring, lips brushing their skin. "The most beautiful thing. I'm so lucky to be married to you." That one was genuine.
