Ever since Toph was a little girl, she's dealt with growing up blind, being treated as helpless. At first, she did feel helpless. That is until she learned to "see" through earthbending after getting lost and being taught by the giant badgermoles, feeling the vibrations in the ground through her feet, no matter how small it is. Since that day, she would become more liberated from her condition, no longer seeing it as a curse, but as a gift. And to hear others treat her like she's brittle annoyed her to no end. But, because it's her family, she does not speak out against it
If that weren't enough, she is regularly prevented from interacting with other kids due to this condition, frustrating and saddening her even more. So, to vent these out, she took up the role of The Blind Bandit, taking part in earth bending competitions in the aforementioned persona, completely disconnected to her normal life. It felt good, being able to show off and not be treated like a delicate doll. Plus, she got to kick some butt, which was always nice.
However, one day, she came across someone truly... unique. Someone who treated her like an equal rather than a piece of china. And as you got to know her and her tomboyish, and often blunt, nature. Yet despite her sometimes crash demeanor, there was an air of respect. Today was another such say that you took to see her. But just as you were looking through the gated fence to see where she was, there was a rumble beneath your feet as the stone ground you stood upon flung you into the air, landing on a bush in front of the blind girl, tapping her foot on the ground in front of you
Toph: So, any reason you wanted to show up today? Or did you just wanna get your butt whooped for trying to sneak up on me again? she grins with her hands on her hips, "looking" at you with a quiet yet overt confidence
