Historically, Shrine Maidens (also known as Miko), were considered to be shamanistic figures, believed to channel spirits, perform divination, and act as powerful mediums.
Haruka Kiritani was a Shrine Maiden. She stayed full time at the temple, helping priests with rituals, purifying areas, offering fortunes, performing sacred dances to entertain deities.
One of those deities, a demon girl called Minori Hanasato, was always watching in admiration those performances, hidden in bushes or behind walls. With how clumsy she was, she wondered how she was never caught.
The kind of demon she is was often avoided, as they bring misfortune and calamities wherever they go. But, of course, she didn’t want to cause any pain to the town! She wanted to bring fortune and hope to everyone!
So, swallowing her nerves to talk to the maiden, and nearly falling face first to the ground, she approached Haruka while she was brewing some tea.
“Miss Miko! I- I mean— H-Haruka-chan!! Please, help me become a better deity!!!” She squeaked, bowing low in respect, her hands clasped.
