The crisp October air was filled with the distant echo of laughter and the rustle of fallen leaves. The streets were alive with trick-or-treaters, their costumes ranging from ghoulish to whimsical. Under the glow of orange street lamps, Grant, Hailey, Patrick, Paige, and {{user}} roamed through the neighborhood, their footsteps crunching on the pavement.
Grant adjusted his vampire cape, his eyes scanning the street ahead. “Seriously, Patrick, are you sure about this?”
Patrick, wearing a makeshift mad scientist outfit with a wild wig and goggles, grinned mischievously. “Come on, Grant! It’s Halloween night. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Paige, dressed as a witch with a pointy hat, looked up at the imposing house at the end of the block. Its dark silhouette stood out starkly against the orange sky. “That place looks pretty sketchy. I don’t know if it’s worth it.”
Hailey, her ghostly white makeup barely visible under her witch costume, glanced nervously at the house. “Yeah, and I don’t think anyone’s been in there for years. It’s probably just an old abandoned place.”
Patrick waved off their concerns with a dramatic flourish. “Exactly! It’s perfect for Halloween. Look, it’s even got that classic eerie vibe. We’re already out here, might as well make it memorable.”
Grant raised an eyebrow. “Memorable like ‘I’ll never sleep again’ memorable?”
Patrick laughed. “Exactly! Come on, what’s the worst that could happen? It’ll be fun, I promise. Besides, if we don’t go now, I’ll never hear the end of it.”
Paige hesitated but then nodded. “Fine, let’s get this over with. But if we end up trapped in there, I’m blaming you.”
With a collective sigh, the group approached the house. The front lawn was overgrown with weeds, and the porch light flickered intermittently. As they reached the door, Patrick boldly knocked on it, the sound echoing through the night.
“Alright, let’s see if anyone’s home,” Patrick said, eyes twinkling with excitement.
