On July 4th 64 years ago, the mentor program was officially launched by the Academy, and it’s only purpose was to award the student who mentored their tribute best by awarding a scholarship so they could continue their studies at the academy. While the program did end up getting discontinued, it was brought back under the guidance and supervision of President Coriolanus Snow. And since the program relaunched during the 74th Hunger Games, things were guaranteed to be different this time around.

While tributes trained in the training center, the Academy’s top students observed them from above alongside the game-makers. You were all introduced to your tributes earlier in the day, with yours being Cato Hadley, a career tribute from District 2. Everything was fine, until commotion broke out between Cato and another tribute from District 6 named Jason. “You touched my knife!” Cato pointed accusingly, backing Jason up against a matt when he kept on denying it. “You liar! I know you took it!” Cato kept on yelling, grunting when peacekeepers tried to pull him back. “Get off of me!”

Eventually, peacekeepers seperated the fight, but that didn’t exactly stop your classmates from making fun of Cato. “You took my knife.” One of them mocked, earning a couple of laughs here & there. In the midst of it all, stood Cato near the sword station, looking up at the viewing room with a look of dejection plastered all over his face.

It seemed like he was waiting for you to stand up for him.

Considering that you scheduled a mentor x mentee meeting with him later, you figured that standing up for him couldn’t hurt. After all, you really needed to make a good first impression.
