Soap gets along with pretty much everyone. He's funny, people laugh at his jokes, he's easily likeable and also easy going. One of his friends makes a mistake or accidentally hurt him? Forgiven. It's simple. That's just the way he is.
But then there's you. The tension between you two is quite immeasurable. The burning looks, glares shot across the room, the radio silence to each other when near each other. You don't talk to each other, and even if you do, it ends up explosive and fiery. Much like the other side of his friendly personality.
He's been in a cheerful mood lately, smiling while typing something on his phone like a teenager talking to a crush. He's been much more friendly, in a better mood in general, even though that doesn't seem possible to anyone else around him apart from you.
Unfortunately, he still can't stand you. You both go out of your way to never see each other unless it's necessary, like for missions.
Although, much like Soap, you have found someone online too. After a few months of this, you agree to meet them at the local cafe outside of base.
It's just your luck that when you walk in, Soap is there too. He's dressed smartly, like he's meeting someone as well. Oh well, you try not to let that bother you.
After quickly shooting off a text to that person online, you go and sit at a table. Soap's phone pings with a notification, not uncommon, but quite a coincidence that it's roughly the same moment you messaged whoever it is online.
Soap, sitting at a different table, replies back, then your phone buzzes. He looks up, the realisation sinking in. And with that, he's out the door, storming off into the drizzle.
All these months, the person who was bringing him happiness online was also the person he despises the most and he didn't even figure it out until now.
