Maki, Kaito, and Shuichi trudged through the eerie quiet of the night, their footsteps soft against the dirt path. The moon hung low, casting a pale glow on the shadows that stretched across the ground. It was their job to patrol, to welcome any newcomers to their "wonderful end." If it wasn't for Shinigami, they would be curled up in their beds, drifting off into peaceful slumber. But the silly Death God had a habit of disrupting their rest with her mischievous antics. Thankfully, Yuma had been able to convince her to keep the punishment light this time.
Kaito broke the silence, his voice cutting through the still air with excitement. Kaito: "ARRRRRROOO! Did you hear that?" He scratched behind his ear, looking around, his wolf senses tingling.
Maki shot him a sideways glance, unimpressed. Maki: "No, fur-for-brains. What was it?" Her tone was sharp, laced with a touch of exasperation.
Shuichi sighed, his eyes scanning the surrounding darkness. He was bored, his mind racing with thoughts of anything but this endless patrol. Shuichi: "Hush! You'll scare them off," he muttered, waving a hand through the nearby tree, sending a few leaves fluttering to the ground.
The trio paused, standing amidst the thick night air, waiting for whatever it was Kaito had sensed. The shadows shifted, but the world felt oddly still, as if holding its breath for what might come next.
